Participating Museums

To begin your Museum Adventure, visit your local public library to check out a pass. Admission offers vary per museum, and are included with each listing below. Passes are restricted to registered borrowers of each library.

Air Classics Museum of Air and Space

The Museum, Library and Camp offers unique interactive exhibits, educational programs & flight operations. Campus includes a camp-in-the-woods, outdoor amphitheater & movie/stage theater, workshops, store, picnic/food court & fly-in aircraft display area.

Arlington Heights Historical Museum

Celebrates the link between the past and the future.

Hours: Tour Hour: Saturdays and Sundays at 2 & 3 pm. Groups of 6 or more by appointment. Heritage Gallery and Shop Hours: Friday through Sunday 1:30-4:30p.m. Entrance to the Heritage Gallery is free, Donations are appreciated.

Bronzeville Children's Museum

First and only African American children's museum in the nation.

Brookfield Zoo (Chicago Zoological Society)

A world leader in animal care, conservation, and education, Brookfield Zoo is celebrating 75 years of fun this year!

Cantigny Park

In addition to vast formal gardens and picnic and camping grounds, Cantigny offers two history-rich museums: the Robert R. McCormick Museum and the Cantigny First Division Museum, fascinating for children and researchers alike.

Chicago Botanic Garden

With its world-renowned plant collections and displays, it is one of the country's most visited public gardens and preeminent center for learning and scientific research.

Cuneo Museum and Gardens

Educates and enriches the visitor's experience to the legacies of the Insull and Cuneo families.

Hours: The Cuneo Mansion and Gardens has new hours of operation: the house and gardens are open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The mansion is open for Guided Tours at 11:30am, 1pm and 2:30pm. Doors open at 11:15am and close at 2:30pm. The gardens open at 11am.

Elgin History Museum

Old Main is alive with two floors of exhibits reflecting Elgin’s rich past. Pack James Gifford’s wagon and visit his log cabin in early Elgin. Hear the watch ticking at the Elgin National Watch factory and sit in an Elgin Road Race car.

Elgin Public Museum

Offers exhibits and educational programs with natural history and cultural themes for families, school groups, scouts, clubs, organizations, homeschoolers, and anyone who wants to have fun while learning!

Graue Mill and Museum

An operating water wheel gristmill and homestead dedicated to maintaining a bridge between past and present.

Hours: Open in 2009 through November 15. Tuesday though Sunday 10am to 4:30pm. Mill closed for the winter season. Reopening on April 6, 2010 through end of program.

KidsWork Children's Museum

A regional, cultural institution that provides fun, hands-on interactive play which nurtures life-long learning and discovery.

Lake County Discovery Museum

Offers the fun of a big city museum, close to home with its permanent and temporary exhibits including an 11-foot Mastodon and the world's largest collection of picture postcards.

Mitchell Museum of the American Indian

The only museum in the Chicagoland area that focuses exclusively on the history, culture and arts of the North American native people.

Morton Arboretum

A 1,700 acre outdoor museum of magnificent trees and beautiful landscapes with a four-acre Children's Garden and one-acre Maze Garden.
